chocolate bunny cups with white chocolate mousse

On the weekend we set out to do a little project. It was a little time consuming, but my husband and I had fun and the end product was so worth it, even Noah didn't mind the wait! {of course some tasting while we did the making didn't go astray either!}

You might have seen this is the latest edition of Donna Hay Kids, where they made some chocolate bowls for ice cream.

We started off with some balloons {rubbed with olive oil to prevent sticking later} and some melted white chocolate. We made a little blob on a cookie tray lined with baking paper.

Then we dipped the balloon in the bowl of chocolate. We would lift it out and let the excess chocolate run off back into the bowl, wait a little and then re-dip it just to get the chocolate a little thicker.

Then we placed the balloon dipped chocolate onto the base.

And then, inspired by One Charming Party's chocolate snowmen bowls, we painted on little chocolate faces using pink coloured white chocolate and a chopstick for the nose and milk chocolate and a satay skewer for the eyes and whiskers.

We then set out to make the bunny ears. To do this we drew bunny ear shapes on baking paper.
Then we turned the baking paper over {so the pencil was facing down} and piped white chocolate onto the paper, following the outline we drew.

After letting them set, we turned them over so we had a smooth surface to work on and then added a bit of the pink chocolate we made for the noses.

After the painted bunny faces had set, we popped the balloons and pulled them out {we actually just made a small snip at the top of the balloon and they deflated - but popped sounds cooler!}.

Then we filled them with a thick, rich white chocolate mousse. I used Nigella's recipe found here. {without the peppermint}. I may have whipped my cream too much. But it still tasted so good.

Of course we don't want to waste any chocolate mousse so someone had a little treat before lunch.
The chocolate filled bunny cups were placed back in the fridge for the mousse to set.

And then, with my children looking on thinking I have gone mad as we have all this chocolate everywhere but we haven't eaten it yet, we assembled them by sticking the chocolate ears we made into the white chocolate mousse.

Why, hello little bunny!

I am very happy with how these turned out. The balloon cup part was my biggest worry but that worked out quite well!

One of the best parts? You can use the ears as a spoon for the mousse!
Too bad that even if you're this cute, you won't last long in our house.
The white chocolate mousse was so very rich and creamy and absolutely delicious!

a little delightful
