Our Sunday's lately have been "alphabet sundays". We have been having fun with identifying letters of the alphabet and colouring or gluing or drawing on large letters printed on a4 sheets of paper.
I found this great font called Tubular Hollow and it is what we have been using for these activities.
I just print an uppercase and lowercase letter out and depending on the day and what kind of time we have we will colour in, or glue things to, the letters.
But then we have also been going around the house collecting things that start with that letter, and writing them down. It's been fun and Noah certainly likes the treasure hunt around the house! It's been such a great alphabet 'teaching' tool whilst being engaging and interactive. On Sundays we are usually home most of the day and so I like to take it a step further and 'theme' the day a little bit. Kind of Sesame Street-ish. So on the sunday that we did the letter A, we baked an apple oatmeal bar. When we did the letter B we baked our own bread and played with balloons and bubbles. When we did the letter C we ate carrot sticks and played with cameras and made cookies.

ReplyDeleteI love it! My 2 1/2 year old loves letters. She doesn't have a clue about them yet but has taken an interest in them. Everything is the letter "A" though. Thanks for the great idea.
