I saw this idea on Bakerella, where she filled glass jars with the dry ingredients for making delicious cookies to give as gifts. Hers were all pink and gorgeous.
I have been wanting to try it for ages, and thankfully was organised enough this year and bought jars and red and green M&M's before they were all sold out.
These jars are truly easy peasy. I was a little shocked at just how easy!
And, most importantly, they are DELICIOUS! Yes, of course I had to make a trial batch!
I adapted Bakerella's recipe a little bit, and I didn't add the chopped pecans at the top as she suggested, mostly because I didn't have any!
Ingredients:
1 1/3 cup plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp bicarb soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup m&m's
3/4 cup chocolate chips {i used dark chocolate chips}
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
chopped pecans {optional}
Layering:
Layer as follows ...
1. Flour {mixed with baking powder, bicarb and salt}
2. oats
3. m&m's
4. chocolate chips
5. brown sugar
6. white sugar
{as you can see, after the white sugar I added more oats and m&m's. I didn't use the full cup of oats for that first oat layer because I thought the jar was going to get too full. Turns out my jar is rather massive, and bigger than the 1L jar you would need.}
To Bake:
Add
1 lightly beaten egg
1 tsp of vanilla
1/2 cup of melted butter
Mix with the dry ingredients. I found my cookie dough to be very separated, and really had to squish the ingredients together to form a ball. I think this was because of too many m&m's!
Place on cookie sheet, press down ever so gently and just a little. Place into 180 degree oven for 10-12 minutes. {160 fan forced}.
They look even better after they're cooked. They are soft and chewy too. And oh so chocolatey!
mmmmmm...
I was impatient to take photos, these aren't done up with their ribbon and labels yet. I'll share those photos soon!
Gorgeous Bianca I love this idea : )
ReplyDeleteCan you please share where you got the cute jar and Christmas blackboard and the candy mints on your previous post : )
Thanks !!
Hi Bianca
ReplyDeleteI'm doing this idea as well and I'm attaching a cute red silicon spatula just to make it even cuter. Living Locurto did a printable for Halloween cookies in a jar and I've been searching for something similar to use for these ones - if you find anything please let me know. I have to tell you the FOUR buckets of M&M's in my pantry are very tempting - i need to get them in the jars asap!! Where are your jars from?
Thanks ladies!
ReplyDeleteKirsty I haven't found any printable labels for these yet, might make my own but I need them for tomorrow. Worse case I'm going to print a little blurb out and glue it into a card.
Those buckets are huge and so tempting huh!! I made 4 or so jars out of one bucket! I found that I ran out of the packs of chocolate chips - those normal little-ish packs only had enough for 2 jars each.
My jars are from Kmart. They're a little big for this though.
And although I answered Jade in an email, for anyone else wondering the chalk board trees are from kitchen warehouse.

ok yum yum yum! lol
ReplyDeleteI missed out on finding 'Christmas' M&Ms this year but will be getting in early next year. They look lovely and I'm bookmarking your post :) Thankyou. :)
